Minibus hire Blackheath for weddings, schools and airport runs

Weddings at the village churches and halls, school trips and airport runs, planned around the heath, the A2 and marathon day in April.

Blackheath is a village on a wide open heath, a few minutes from Greenwich Park and the river. Its streets are lined with Georgian houses, its church spire stands alone on the grass, and its halls host concerts and weddings. Minibus hire Blackheath families book is mostly weddings, school trips and airport runs, with one day a year when everything changes, the morning of the London Marathon.

From our base in SE1, Blackheath is about twenty-five to thirty-five minutes outside the rush hour, down the A2.

Church weddings on the heath

All Saints' Church, on the heath itself, is one of the area's best-known churches for weddings, and Blackheath Halls, in the village, hosts concerts, events and receptions. Couples also marry at churches across the area and hold receptions in Greenwich, along the river or out in Kent.

For weddings, a minibus loop between the church and the reception keeps guests together. The heath is open and easy to reach, but the village streets are narrow and busy at weekends, so we'll agree the drop-off and waiting points in advance.

Guests at Blackheath weddings often stay in hotels in Greenwich or on the peninsula, and a minibus loop from the hotel to the church, then on to the reception, saves everyone finding parking in the village. Ranger's House, on the edge of Greenwich Park, holds an art collection and its grounds are a striking backdrop for photos.

Minibus hire Blackheath for school trips

Blackheath has a number of schools, including well-known independent schools, and they book us for trips, fixtures and field work. The heath itself and Greenwich Park are used for outdoor learning, and the museums in Greenwich are a short drive away.

A term's worth of weekly fixtures can be booked in one go.

Marathon day in April

The London Marathon starts on Blackheath and in Greenwich Park every April. On marathon Sunday, the roads around the heath close from early morning, and tens of thousands of runners, supporters and staff fill the area.

Running clubs and charity groups book us to get their runners to the start, often from hotels in central London or further afield. The drop-off is outside the closed area, and runners walk the last part. If you live in Blackheath and have a booking on marathon day, tell us, and we'll plan around the closures. Running clubs collecting their runners after the finish, on the Mall, need a separate plan, because central London roads are closed for most of the day too.

London City and the A2

London City Airport is about fifteen to twenty minutes from Blackheath, via the A102 and the Blackwall or Silvertown tunnels. Gatwick is around an hour, via the A2, the A20 and the M25. Stansted is about an hour, via a tunnel and the M11. Heathrow, on the far side of the city, takes an hour or more.

For relatives flying in for a family occasion, a minibus that meets the group at the airport and brings them straight to the village is the easy option.

The A2 runs across the heath itself, and it's busy at peak times, especially heading into London in the morning.

Village life and evenings

Blackheath village has restaurants, pubs and independent shops, and it's a popular spot for birthday dinners and family celebrations. Groups book us to get there and back, often from across south-east London. Blackheath Halls' concerts and the village's theatre and music events bring audiences in the evening too, and a minibus home after a show is easier than the last train from Blackheath station.

The village streets are narrow, with parking on both sides. We'll agree a pickup point on one of the roads around the heath, where a minibus can stop safely.

Driving across the heath

The heath is crossed by several roads, and they're busy at most times of day. Stopping on the heath itself is limited, and parking near the village fills quickly at weekends.

The thing to know about minibus hire Blackheath groups book on summer weekends is that the heath draws big crowds for kite-flying, picnics and events, and the roads around it slow down. For weekend pickups, we'll allow extra time and agree the meeting point in advance.

Greenwich Park, next to the heath, has the Royal Observatory at the top of the hill and the museums at the bottom, and a minibus that drops at one gate and collects at another saves a long walk back up. For tours and school groups, we'll plan the drop-off and pickup points around the park's gates. Give us the date and the plan, and we'll send back the details in writing.

Weekday evenings after 7pm are usually the easiest time to cross the heath by road.

Call us and we'll talk it through.
