Surbiton grew up around its railway station, and the station still sets the rhythm of the town. The white Art Deco building from 1937 sends thousands of commuters to Waterloo every morning on some of the fastest suburban trains in London. When those trains don't run, Surbiton notices. The town also has a long riverside promenade facing Hampton Court Park, a grass-court tennis tournament every June and plenty of weddings. Minibus hire Surbiton customers book covers riverside weddings, office groups and commuters when the railway lets them down, sports and school trips, and runs to Heathrow and Gatwick.
Surbiton sits in Kingston borough, just south of Kingston town centre, between the Thames and the A3, with Tolworth, Berrylands and Long Ditton around it. From our base in SE1, it's about fifty minutes to an hour outside the rush hour, down the A3.
Minibus hire Surbiton for riverside weddings
Queen's Promenade runs along the Thames from Surbiton towards Kingston, and the river, the boathouses and the view across to Hampton Court Park make it a favourite spot for wedding photographs. Couples marry at churches in Surbiton, at the register office in Kingston, and at riverside hotels and venues on both banks. Receptions also take place at Hampton Court and at golf clubs and country houses in Surrey.
The minibus collects guests from their homes or a hotel, drops at the ceremony, carries on to the reception and does the late runs home. For riverside venues, the roads along the river are narrow and parking is tight, so we'll confirm the drop-off and the waiting point with the venue. Minibus hire Surbiton couples book often includes a stop at the promenade for photographs on the way.
Office groups and disrupted trains
Many people in Surbiton work in central London, at Canary Wharf or in offices along the A3. When strikes or engineering works stop the trains, groups of colleagues and neighbours share a minibus into town rather than face a crowded replacement bus. Companies in Kingston and Surbiton also book us for away days, client events and Christmas parties.
For a regular commute during a strike, we'll agree a pickup point, the time and the drop-off, and keep the same plan each day it's needed. For corporate bookings, we'll send the details in writing.
Grass-court tennis and sport
The Surbiton Racket and Fitness Club hosts a grass-court tournament in late May and early June, one of the warm-up events before Wimbledon, and it draws players and spectators from across the country. Groups of tennis fans and club members book us for days at the tournament.
Surbiton also has rowing clubs on the river, hockey and cricket clubs, and plenty of junior sport. The team and the kit travel together, and the driver waits for the game. Kingston University's Penrhyn Road campus sits between Surbiton and Kingston, and student societies and sports clubs book us for fixtures and trips. Rowing clubs heading to regattas sometimes need a vehicle for the crew while the boats go on a trailer, and we can work alongside that.
School trips and Hampton Court
Surbiton's primary and secondary schools book us for museum visits, theatre trips, swimming and residential trips. The South Kensington museums are about forty-five minutes away outside the rush hour.
Hampton Court Palace, across the river, is about ten minutes away by road, over Hampton Court Bridge. Its Tudor kitchens, the maze and the gardens make it one of the best school trips in the area. During the RHS flower festival at Hampton Court in early July, the roads around the palace are much busier. Seething Wells, the old waterworks on the riverbank, and the Thames Path to Kingston suit a local history walk.
Airport runs from Surbiton
Heathrow is about twenty-five to thirty-five minutes from Surbiton outside the rush hour, via Hampton Court and the A308 or through Kingston and the A316. Gatwick is about forty-five minutes, via the A3 and the M25. Stansted and Luton sit well over an hour away, round the M25.
For a family holiday, a minibus from the door with space for the cases is easier than the train into Waterloo and back out again. For flights home, send us the number and the driver will meet the family in arrivals.
The A3, Tolworth and the station
The A3 runs along the southern edge of Surbiton, and the Tolworth roundabout, where it meets the A240, is one of the busiest junctions in south-west London at peak times. The roads around the station, Victoria Road and Claremont Road, are busy with buses and drop-offs during the commuting hours, so pickups in the centre happen on a side road. The Portsmouth Road along the river is narrow in places, with parked cars. For early flights, we'll allow a margin for the A3.
