The Great Barn at Harmondsworth, a short drive south of West Drayton, was built in the 1420s and is so vast and finely made that John Betjeman called it the Cathedral of Middlesex. A few hundred metres beyond it, the planes of Heathrow's northern runway roar overhead. West Drayton and its neighbouring villages sit right on the airport's edge, with dozens of hotels along the Bath Road and thousands of residents working at the airport. Minibus hire West Drayton customers book is shaped by that, with hotel pickups, early starts, shift runs and family events.
West Drayton sits in the south-west of Hillingdon, between Yiewsley, Hayes, Harmondsworth and the Colne Valley, with the M4 and the M25 close by. From our base in SE1, it's about fifty minutes to an hour outside the rush hour, along the A4 and the M4.
Minibus hire West Drayton for Bath Road hotels
The Bath Road, along the airport's northern edge, is lined with hotels of every size, and they're full of travellers, airline crews, conference delegates and wedding guests. Groups staying there book us for runs into central London, day trips, events and transfers to other airports.
Most Bath Road hotels have a forecourt or a coach bay, which makes group pickups easier than in central London, but the road itself is busy and has bus lanes, so the driver will use the hotel's own entrance. Give us the hotel name when you book. Many crews and travellers stay for one night only, and a group checking out at three in the morning needs a driver who's there on time. For groups arriving at one airport and flying out of another, we can run the transfer between Heathrow and Gatwick, Stansted or Luton.
Early starts and late arrivals
Many Heathrow flights leave before seven in the morning, and long-haul arrivals land from about five. From West Drayton, the terminals are ten to twenty minutes away, so a pickup at four or half past is often enough. Families flying out from home, groups who stayed in a hotel the night before and crews heading to a shift all book us for early runs.
For arrivals, share the flight number and the driver will track the landing. Minibus hire West Drayton families book for a summer holiday often includes the return leg, booked at the same time so the trip home is sorted.
Shift runs for airport staff
Heathrow's terminals, cargo centres, catering units and hotels run around the clock, and many shifts start before the buses or finish after the last. Employers and groups of colleagues book us for regular runs between West Drayton, Yiewsley, Hayes and the airport.
For regular runs, the pickup points, the times and the seats stay the same each day, and we'll adjust when the rota changes.
The Colne Valley, the canal and the Great Barn
The Grand Union Canal runs through West Drayton and Yiewsley, and the Colne Valley Regional Park, to the west, has lakes, meadows and walks along the river. Little Britain Lake, on the edge of the park, is a favourite for family walks and school nature trips, with ducks, swans and an easy path all the way round. The Great Barn at Harmondsworth, looked after by English Heritage, opens to visitors on set days. Harmondsworth and Sipson have old pubs and village greens that suit a quiet lunch before a flight.
Walking groups, schools and history societies book us for outings to all three. The driver drops at the car park or the gate and returns at the time you set.
Family events and the villages
West Drayton, Yiewsley, Harmondsworth and Sipson have families from many backgrounds, and weddings, christenings and birthdays bring guests from across west London and abroad. Banqueting halls and the airport hotels host many receptions. Guests are collected from homes and hotels and taken to the ceremony and the reception, and the late run back covers the villages around the airport.
The villages north of the airport sit in the area affected by plans for a third runway, and the roads and layout around them may change over the coming years.
The Bath Road, the M4 and the M25
The Bath Road carries heavy airport traffic, buses and taxis at most times, and the junctions at the terminal tunnel and Harlington Corner are slow at peak times. Junction 4 of the M4 and junction 15 of the M25, where the two motorways meet near the airport, are among the busiest in the country. West Drayton's own station area and the High Street in Yiewsley are narrow and busy, especially at school times. Pickups happen at hotel entrances or on side roads, and for very early flights the roads are usually clear.
