Under a quiet street in Dollis Hill, on the edge of Willesden, lies Paddock, the secret bunker built in 1939 as an alternative War Cabinet room in case Whitehall was bombed. Churchill held one Cabinet meeting there. It opens to visitors a few days a year, and it's one of many surprises in a district best known for its long high roads and mix of communities. Minibus hire Willesden customers book is mostly school trips, family and community events, park outings and runs to Heathrow along the North Circular.
Willesden covers Willesden Green, Willesden Junction, Dollis Hill and the streets around Church Road and the High Road, in the south of Brent. From our base in SE1, it's about thirty-five to forty-five minutes outside the rush hour, through Marylebone and Kilburn.
Minibus hire Willesden for school trips
Willesden's primary and secondary schools book us for museum visits, theatre trips, swimming, sports fixtures and residential trips. The South Kensington museums are about forty minutes away outside the rush hour, the British Museum about thirty-five and the RAF Museum in Colindale about twenty.
Local trips are closer still. The Brent Museum and Archives, in the Willesden Green Library, tells the story of the borough's people. Roundwood Park and Gladstone Park suit a nature trip or a sports day. Willesden Sports Centre, on Donnington Road, has a pool and an athletics track used by schools across the borough. Teachers send us the numbers, the destination and the times, and the confirmation comes back in writing.
For pupils travelling to specialist schools, we can set up regular runs with the same stops and times through the term, agreed with the school and the parents.
Roundwood Park and Gladstone Park
Roundwood Park, a Victorian park on the hill between Willesden and Harlesden, has formal flower gardens, an aviary, a playground and a café, and it hosts a summer festival. Gladstone Park, in Dollis Hill, has wide lawns, views towards central London, a walled garden and a café, and the ruins of Dollis Hill House where Gladstone stayed. Its walled garden and café make it a pleasant stop for older groups too.
Nurseries, schools, community groups and families book us for days at both. On festival days, the roads around Roundwood Park are busy, so we'll drop on the edge and set a meeting point for the return.
Community events and weddings
Willesden is home to Irish, Caribbean, Brazilian, Somali, Indian, Eastern European and many other communities, and its churches, mosques, temples and community centres book us for conventions, festivals and outings. Weddings, christenings, Eid parties and big birthdays bring families together from across north-west London. Brazilian restaurants and cafés around the High Road and Church Road host big family parties and World Cup gatherings.
Guests are picked up from homes across Willesden and Harlesden, taken to the ceremony and on to the reception, and dropped home at the end. The House of Life, the restored Victorian Jewish cemetery on Glebe Road with its visitor centre, draws heritage groups and schools for guided tours.
Heathrow via the North Circular
Heathrow is about thirty-five to forty-five minutes from Willesden outside the rush hour, via the North Circular and the A40, or Harrow Road and the A40. Luton is about forty-five minutes via Staples Corner and the M1. Stansted takes about an hour and Gatwick about an hour and a quarter. Car seats, buggies and wheelchairs all need space, so tell us when you book.
For families flying out with children and luggage, a minibus from the door avoids the Jubilee line and a change at Baker Street or Bond Street. For arrivals, the driver times the pickup to the landing. Minibus hire Willesden families book for an early Heathrow flight is planned with a margin for the Hanger Lane gyratory.
Willesden Junction and Old Oak
Willesden Junction, on the edge of Harlesden, is one of London's busiest rail junctions, with the Overground and the Bakerloo line, and the huge new Old Oak Common station for HS2 and the Elizabeth line is being built just to the south. Building work and road changes around Old Oak Lane will continue for years, and we'll plan routes around them. The station's forecourt is cramped, so we meet groups on a nearby street instead.
The High Road and the North Circular
Willesden High Road and Church Road are busy with buses and shoppers, with limited stopping. The North Circular, along the northern edge of Willesden, is slow at peak times, especially at the Neasden and Staples Corner junctions. The side streets are long Edwardian terraces with parked cars on both sides. Pickups happen on side roads, and for home pickups we'll check the route. Willesden sits outside the Congestion Charge zone.
