White City got its name from the white marble-clad pavilions built for the Franco-British Exhibition of 1908, and the stadium built alongside it hosted the London Olympics that summer. The pavilions are long gone. In their place came the BBC's Television Centre, the round building where shows were made for half a century, and now a district of offices, studios, a university campus and Westfield. Minibus hire White City customers book is mostly sport and work, with QPR match days, office and studio teams, students and hospital staff.
White City sits in the north of Hammersmith and Fulham, between Shepherd's Bush, East Acton and North Kensington, with the Westway along its northern side. From our base in SE1, it's about thirty-five to forty-five minutes outside the rush hour, through Kensington or along the Westway.
Minibus hire White City for QPR match days
Loftus Road, home of Queens Park Rangers, holds around eighteen thousand, and it's packed into the terraced streets of White City, with the stands close to the houses. On match days, South Africa Road, Ellerslie Road and the streets around the ground fill with supporters and some close to traffic.
Supporters' clubs from outside London, junior clubs on a day out and visiting fans book us to get there and back. We'll check the minibus arrangements for the fixture and set a meeting point a short walk from the ground for after the final whistle, usually on Wood Lane or the Uxbridge Road where the vehicle can wait. Evening kick-offs finish around a quarter to ten. The club's community trust runs holiday camps and girls' football on local pitches too.
Television Centre and the offices
Television Centre has been turned into flats, offices, a hotel and studios, and live shows are still recorded there in front of audiences. White City Place, the old BBC Media Village across Wood Lane, is home to media, fashion and tech companies, and new offices line Wood Lane up to the Westway.
Companies book us for away days, client visits, team dinners and airport runs, and production teams book us to move crews, cast and audiences. For audience groups, tell us the recording time, and the driver will drop and collect at the studio's group entrance. Audience tickets for big shows are free but limited, and recordings can run three hours or more, so we'll keep the pickup flexible.
Imperial College and the hospitals
Imperial College's White City campus, along Wood Lane, has research buildings, the Translation and Innovation Hub and student halls, and Imperial's teams and departments book us for fixtures, field trips and conferences. Moving-in weekends at the student halls on the campus are busy, with families arriving with boxes and bags. Hammersmith Hospital and Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea, on Du Cane Road, are a few minutes north, and their staff book us for nights out and leaving dos.
For hospital pickups, we'll agree the entrance in advance, because the sites are large. Minibus hire White City staff teams book for a Christmas party often means a pickup after a late shift.
Wormwood Scrubs and the stadium
Wormwood Scrubs, one of the largest open spaces in west London, has football and rugby pitches, a nature reserve and the Linford Christie Stadium, the borough's athletics track. Sunday league teams, athletics clubs and school sports days fill the pitches and the track at weekends.
Clubs book us for away fixtures and to bring teams to the Scrubs. Its nature reserve, with meadows and scrub, suits a school science trip. A squad and its kit travel together, and the driver stays for the game.
Westfield and the Westway
Westfield London, at the southern end of Wood Lane, is one of the biggest shopping centres in Europe, and our Shepherd's Bush page has more on shopping trips there. The Westway, the A40, runs along the northern edge of White City, and it's the quickest route west to the M40 and east into central London.
Heathrow is about thirty-five to forty-five minutes from White City outside the rush hour, via the A40 or the A4. Luton is about fifty minutes, Gatwick about an hour and a quarter and London City about fifty minutes.
Wood Lane and match-day traffic
Wood Lane, running north from Shepherd's Bush, is White City's main road, and it's busy with buses, campus traffic and shoppers heading for Westfield, with limited stopping. The Westway junction at the top of Wood Lane queues at peak times. On QPR match days, the streets around Loftus Road are closed or very busy for a couple of hours either side of kick-off. If your booking in White City falls on a match day and has nothing to do with football, tell us the date and we'll plan around it.
