Chelsea Old Town Hall is one of the most famous places to get married in London, and on a Saturday in summer, wedding parties come and go from its steps on the King's Road all day. A few weeks earlier, in May, the Chelsea Flower Show fills the grounds of the Royal Hospital. Minibus hire Chelsea groups book is shaped by both, with weddings, Flower Show visits, King's Road evenings and airport runs.
From our base in SE1, Chelsea is about twenty to thirty minutes outside the rush hour, along the Embankment.
Chelsea runs from Sloane Square down to the river, with the King's Road as its spine. The streets either side are lined with houses, garden squares and small shops, and the riverside is lined with grand houses along the Embankment.
Minibus hire Chelsea for town hall weddings
Chelsea Old Town Hall holds the borough's register office, and couples come from all over London and beyond to marry there. Many have a small ceremony, photos on the steps and then a reception in a restaurant, a hotel or a private venue elsewhere.
For those, a minibus from the town hall to the reception keeps the guests together. The King's Road is busy, especially on Saturdays, so the driver will stop at the nearest safe point and guests walk the last part. Tell us the ceremony time and the reception address, and we'll plan the run.
Some couples have guests from out of town staying in hotels around Sloane Square or South Kensington. The minibus can collect them first, so everyone reaches the ceremony together and on time.
Flower Show week
The Chelsea Flower Show, run by the Royal Horticultural Society in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, draws huge crowds every May. Garden clubs, societies and corporate hospitality groups book us to get there and back.
During Flower Show week, the roads around the Royal Hospital are busy and some are restricted. We'll drop at the nearest point the traffic plan allows and agree a meeting point for the return.
Flower Show days are long, and most visitors want to leave either mid-afternoon or at the close. Tell us which, and the driver will be back at the meeting point in good time. If the group is going on the final day, when exhibitors sell off plants, tell us and we'll keep room in the back.
The Royal Hospital itself, home of the Chelsea Pensioners, and the National Army Museum next to it draw visitors all year. School groups visit the museum for its galleries on the British Army, and Royal Hospital tours are led by the Pensioners themselves.
Sloane Square and the King's Road
Sloane Square has the Royal Court Theatre and the start of the King's Road, with its shops, restaurants and the Saatchi Gallery. Cadogan Hall, just off the square, hosts concerts. Groups come for shopping, dinner, theatre and concerts. Duke of York Square, beside the Saatchi Gallery, has a Saturday food market and restaurants with outdoor tables in summer.
Sloane Square is a busy junction, and stopping on it is limited. We'll agree a pickup point on a side street off the square, out of the way of the buses.
Chelsea Physic Garden and the Embankment
The Chelsea Physic Garden, one of the oldest botanic gardens in the country, sits by the river and draws gardening groups and school trips. The Chelsea Embankment runs along the river, past grand houses and towards the bridges. Groups often combine the garden with a walk along Cheyne Walk, where blue plaques mark the homes of writers and artists.
Albert Bridge, one of the prettiest bridges in London, has a strict weight limit that rules out minibuses. For trips south across the river, the driver uses Chelsea Bridge or Battersea Bridge instead.
Heathrow and football days
Heathrow is about forty to fifty minutes from Chelsea outside the rush hour, via the Cromwell Road and the A4. Allow an hour to an hour and a quarter for Gatwick. For a family or a small team flying together with luggage, a minibus from a hotel near Sloane Square saves two taxis.
Stamford Bridge, Chelsea FC's ground, is just over the border in Fulham, and on match days the Fulham Road and the roads around it fill with supporters. Tell us if your date clashes with a home game and we'll route around the Fulham Road.
Saturday weddings and traffic
The thing to know about minibus hire Chelsea couples book for a Saturday wedding at the town hall is that the King's Road is at its busiest just when you need it to move. Several wedding parties can be arriving and leaving at the same time. Agree the timings with us in advance, and allow a few extra minutes for the photos on the steps.
